Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is the main dairy animal of India. It contributes about half of the total milk production in the country, whereas its population is half of total cattle. Out of total buffaloes a large proportion is non-descript having low milk production. Therefore there is urgent need to upgrade the non-descript low producing buffaloes for better performance.
