Because We Are Self-determined
The Social Implications of Having Free-will
Buch
In Because We Are Self-determined, Dr. Rogers argues that because humans are unique beings-rational, highly aware, self-determined, creative, and achieving, there are certain things that must be true of social and governmental structures if those institutions are to work well for us, providing us with the freedom we need to be who we are and achieve our potential, as individuals and as a species. But more then merely asserting the uniqueness of humanity, Rogers offers historical and social examples as evidence to support his contention regarding our shared human nature and what we need so we can thrive and achieve. While analyzing issues such as rights, equality, freedom, responsibility, taxation and more, Rogers asks what kind of social and governmental structures are needed if we are to be a society of equals, where justice is available to all. His intention is not to advocate one specific kind of social structure or government, but to argue that given the uniqueness of humanity, there are certain things that must be true of our social and governmental structures if we are to be happy and able to achieve our potential. Because We Are Self-determined is a book worth reading.
