Über den Autor
Jack Spicer (1925-1965) was a poet and linguist born in Los Angeles, California. At college in Berkeley he formed an alliance with fellow gay poets Robin Blaser and Robert Duncan and later became a key figure of the poetry scene in San Francisco, where he helped found the Six Gallery where the Beat movement began. Spicer, however, stood apart from the movement and resisted widespread publication of his work. He believed poetry was deeply intertwined with magic and the occult, seeing the poet as a conduit for otherworldly messages. He died of alcohol poisoning in the poverty ward of San Francisco General Hospital. Peter Gizzi is the author of several poetry collections, including Threshold Songs, The Outernationale, and Archeophonics, which was a finalist for the National Book Award. He has served as the poetry editor for The Nation and teaches at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
