Following the Soviet invasion in 1979, the Mujahideen defenders of Afghanistan developed and reinforced many natural cave systems to use as supply bases and defensive positions. The Taliban and Al Qaeda further strengthened these positions in the 1990s. Following the events of September 11, 2001, these cave systems have once more come to prominence and sites such as Tora Bora and Zhawar Kili have featured in news headlines around the world. This title provides an analysis of these caves and underground systems, and discusses the U.S.-led Coalition's tactical approach to dislodging the enemy from these fortified positions.

Über den Autor
Mir Bahmanyar served in the 2nd Ranger Battalion. He was on the Board of Directors ofthe 75th Ranger Regiment Association and created SuaSponte.com - A History of AmericanRangers. Mir has authored nine non-fiction books. Some are on the reading lists of: The U.S. Marine Corps Forces Central Command The Command and General Staff College Deputy Commandant's Deploying Officer The U.S. Joint Forces Command's Pre-Deployment AfghanistanMir was interviewed by the National Review. He co-wrote and produced the awardwinningmotion picture Soldier of God. He was a German language coach and military technicaladvisor to George Clooney in the motion picture The Good German. Mir was invited to speak atthe Malaga Film Commission's annual Cine y Turismo (Cinema and Tourism) seminar featuringfilmmakers and business leaders from around the world.
